Modelling forest dynamics and Optimizing multi-objective forest management

Welcome to Sergio de Miguel website

I am a Doctor of Science (Agriculture and Forestry) currently working as a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Science and Forestry of the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) on the coordination and execution of international research projects dealing with forest modelling and optimization in the Mediterranean basin and Tropical regions.

Niin metsä vastaa kuin sinne huudetaan.

The forest will answer you in the way you call to it.

Finnish proverb

Forest modelling and optimization

Forest growth models are important tools within research to investigate and understand key ecosystem processes and to support forest management decisions. Sustainable forest management requires detailed information on tree growth and forest dynamics, including structural development, biodiversity indicators, and effects of disturbances.

In multi-objective forest planning, multi-scale forest planning can be improved using multi-criteria decision support methods and multi-objective optimization algorithms. Multi-objective optimization seeks the best plan and schedule among a huge number of alternatives using computer-based methods.
